My six-year-old granddaughter, Caitlynd, discovered a small freckle (斑点)on her left arm. She didn’t like it and tried to pick it off.
I told her, “Oh dear, that’s a beautiful mark. Don’t pick it off.” She took another look at it. “It’s not a beauty mark. I want it off,” she said with tears (眼泪).
“Each of us is born with special marks. Some of them can be seen and some of them are invisible (看不见的).”
“What kind of mark is invisible?” she asks.
“Well…a mark of kindness, even the mark of a loving heart. We can’t see them, but they are very special marks.”
“Why can’t mine all the invisible?” she asked.
“I can see many of your special marks, such as the color of your eyes, the shape of your nose and the smile on your face. Nobody else in the whole world has those exact things. Only you. Special marks, inside and outside, are the things that make each of us different and special people.”
She didn’t understand my words completely, but she stopped crying. The next morning, Caithynd ran into the kitchen. She jumped into my husband’s lap. “I have a beauty mark. Want to see it?”
“I sure do,” my husband laughed.
“I didn’t like it yesterday, but now I do,” she said.
